“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)”
This a promise from God to us and anyone that receives Jesus and believes in his name. Through this promise, God has adopted us as his children and has made us heirs to the kingdom. Receiving this gift from God requires us to be open and willing vessels. For God to do his work in us, we need to take a step back and let him take control.
I read something that will stick with me for the rest of my life and I would like to share it. It said, “trying to be in control and relinquishing control at the same time doesn’t work; they can’t coexist inside the same heart”. When we let go and let God take control of our lives, we are able to finally rest and experience peace.
Trusting someone we do not know is the hardest thing ever; and most of the time love and trust work hand in hand. I believe the more time you spend with God, the more you will love him, and that love will eventually lead to trusting him.
When you trust God and decide to let him take control, there is a natural rest that will occur. Imagine going on a road trip with a sibling and they suddenly try to fight you for the wheel. How uncomfortable would that be for you? Now imagine your sibling sitting in the passenger seat just enjoying the ride. Which sibling do you think experienced the most peace? Of course, it was the sibling who sat comfortably and enjoyed the ride.
My point is that in order for us to live a life where we can experience the peace of God, we have to fall back and let him take control. Jeremiah 29:11 says,
“For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord. They are plans for good and not disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
We have to remember that not every moment will be clear. There will be times where it feels like we are in the dark. We have to keep our mind focused on the promise God has granted us through his son Jesus Christ. For the Lord directs the steps of the godly and delights in every detail of their lives. (Psalm 37:23) He wants to give us peace that surpasses our understanding. Let him take control and enjoy the view from the passenger seat.
